Inspired by Retro Toys from the 90's

The 90's and 2000's had some of the best and weirdest toys ever made. QuzucritteRs draws its inspiration from classics like the Barcode Battler and Skannerz. Reimagined with a modern camera, a bright screen, and a whole world of creatures.

The truth about QR Codes

When files are deleted and passwords forgotten, their lost data doesn’t disappear. The data drifts through the digital depths, where fragments of code merge and evolve into QuzucritteRs, a curious new form of digital life. Their home is inside QR codes, tiny portals linking their world

The world is your game. QuzucritteRs runs on AAA batteries so you can take it anywhere. No phone, no Wi-Fi, no app, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases. Slip it in a pocket and start your search for QR codes!

FAQ

How does this work without the internet?

QR codes can store many kinds of data, not just website links. QuzucritteRs reads that data and turns it into possibilities inside the game. This keeps each discovery surprising, without needing an internet connection.

Is it really 100% offline? What about my data?

Yes. QuzucritteRs never connects to Wi-Fi or mobile networks. No accounts, no apps, no data collection. The camera only reads codes: images are processed instantly and discarded, never stored or shared. The scanner remembers which codes have been scanned so the same code can't be scanned twice, and that data never leaves the device.

How does trading with friends work without the internet?

QuzucritteRs uses built-in Bluetooth to trade creatures face to face, scanner to scanner. There are no servers, no accounts, and no online chat. Just two devices pointed at each other, swapping critters.

Do I need a phone, subscription, or add-ons?

No. QuzucritteRs is a fully standalone device. No apps to install, no phone setup, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. Everything you need is included, and future updates are free.

What's in the box?

Your QuzucritteRs scanner, AAA batteries to get started, a quick-start guide, and a guaranteed starter creature QR code. Scan it and you're playing in under two minutes. The collectible packaging even doubles as a creature habitat, so keep the box!

Drew Shark, creator of Quzu Critters and founder of Shark Industries

About The Creator: Drew Shark

I’ve wanted to design toys since I was a kid; long before my career took me through art, software, hardware, and eventually founding a 3D scanning company. As a parent, I struggled with balancing screen time and real-world play, until my son discovered QR codes and suddenly it turned everyday walks into scavenger hunts. Watching that curiosity unfold made everything click. QuzucritteRs grew out of that moment: a retro-inspired handheld scanner that encourages exploration while unlocking a playful digital world, built to be kid-safe, internet-free, and rooted in imagination.
